Nut Free School
We have a number of children and staff with serious nut allergies within the school. Children and adults who suffer from nut allergies can develop a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
If someone has a nut allergy it is not just eating nuts that can cause a severe reaction, just being touched on the skin or coming into close contact with someone who has recently eaten nuts or a product containing nuts can trigger anaphylactic shock (which can cause breathing and swallowing difficulties).
Staff in the school are trained to use the Epi-pens (an injection of adrenalin) which is required immediately if this happens.
With this in mind, could we politely ask that no products containing nuts are sent into school for break time and lunch time.
For example:
Peanut butter sandwiches
Chocolate spreads (Nutella)
Chocolate bars that contain nuts
Cereal bars and some granola bars
Cakes, biscuits and cookies that contain nuts
Satay products
Sauces that contain nuts
We kindly ask you to check the packaging of products closely. We appreciate that this can be time consuming however, we know that you recognise the importance of this to ensure that we, alongside many other schools in the area become a NUT FREE SCHOOL.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff. Thank you for your consideration and for safeguarding our children and staff.
