Attendance

The Welsh Government expects every pupil to achieve a minimum of 95% attendance throughout an academic year. To achieve this, pupils would need to have no more than 10 days off throughout the academic year. We have set ourselves a target as a whole school to achieve 95% this academic year and really need your help to hit that target.

 

Holidays

At Ysgol Y Bryn we fully appreciate and understand the temptation to book holidays during school term time instead of school holiday time due to the difference in cost. Although we strongly believe it is imperative that pupils are in school as often as they possibly can to ensure they grow socially, emotionally and academically to achieve the best of their ability, we also understand the benefit quality family time can bring and the positive effect it can have on pupil’s social and emotional wellbeing.  Please try to book your family holidays outside of school term time if possible. 

As a result we will support any school holidays as long as it doesn’t result in a pupils attendance falling below 95%. For example, if your child has 97% attendance and you request a holiday that requires 10 school days off, we would authorise 4 days of the holiday and 6 days would be unauthorised, as the 6 days would take the attendance below 95%. This would result in the 6 days being unauthorised absence on the system.

We understand that it is impossible to predict when your child may be unwell or need time off for different reasons, however we would encourage that if you know you will be going on holiday during school term time that every effort is made to ensure the best possible attendance throughout the school year.

Please note that all holiday requests must be applied for.  Request forms are available by the main entrance.  Please complete and return to Mrs Robinson.  Requests must be made before the holiday.

Our door is always open for you to come and talk to us and if there is a challenge you are facing that we are unaware of, please let us know as we can explore options for you.

Reminder of School Times

8.15am	Breakfast Club opens and is free for all learners to attend.
8.35am	Breakfast Club closes
8.45am – 8.55am	School doors/Early Years gate open where you will be greeted by staff. Please ensure your child/ren are arriving in school between 8.45am – 8.55am every morning ready to start lessons by 9am.
8.55am	Doors close and Early Years Gate
If you arrive after 8.55am, please come to the main entrance.
9.00am	Register taken
9.10am	Registers close
3.00pm	Nursery end of the day/collection time
3.10pm	Reception to Year 6 end of the day/collection time
3.20pm – 5.00pm (Mon-Thurs)	After School Club – Please pre book with Miss R. Phillips as places are limited  rebecca.phillips@bryn.ysgolccc.cymru

• Pupils arriving between 9.00am 9.10am will have a code that states they are late but before the register closed (L code). 
• Pupils arriving after 9.11am will be recorded as late and arrived after the register closed (U code). 

Please be aware that all registers are monitored and lateness meetings will be held to discuss frequent lateness and attendance.
